A draft of the FSY 2026 program calendar will be posted here in the spring. During the program, students will refer to a shared Google Calendar for more detailed information and real-time updates.

Academics

Students will take ENGL S1014 which meets M, W, F and a Quantitative Reasoning (QR) course that meets on T and Th. For the QR courses, students will be assigned to one QR Course meeting time in the morning and one QR Discussion section in the afternoon.

Office hours are designated times when instructors are available to meet with students outside of class to discuss course material, clarify questions, or provide additional academic support. These times are reserved so students know their instructors are available and students are encouraged to take advantage of office hours though these are not required daily events.

Workshops and Presentations

Students will attend a variety of workshops that introduce students to important concepts -- strategic reading, time management, self-care, financial literacy -- and campus offices and resources including, but not limited to: Office of Educational Opportunity (OEO), Yale College Community Care (YC3), Undergraduate Financial Aid (UFA), Chaplain's Office, galleries and museums, and more.

In addition to these, all students will have the opportunity to meet with a residential college dean (via Dean's Meetings) and meet Yale faculty through Faculty Perspectives, a lecture and lunch series.

Field Trips

There are generally three field trips during FSY:

  • Team building excursion - This trip takes place on the first weekend of the program and changes every year based on summer staff preferences. Examples of past trips include ziplining, berry picking, painting classes, a Thimble Island cruise, and the Mystic Aquarium.
  • Outdoor Education Center (OEC)
  • New York City

[quote]The various trips and activities (NYC, aquarium, OEC) really made the program extra memorable. I got to spend so much time with new friends in so many different settings.    - FSY '25 student

Cohort Events

Annual events that the whole cohort attends include an alumni panel and networking event and a formal final dinner event. In addition to these, FSY summer staff coordinate a variety of Fam Time events ("family time" is mandatory for all to participate) that typically include a campus scavenger hunt, Fourth of July activities, extracurricular exploration, and a talent show.

Counselor-led Activities

All students are assigned an FSY Counselor with whom they meet individually and in small groups. Counselor Groups meet a few times each week to connect, reflect, and share as students navigate the FSY experience.

In addition to the mandatory events above, the FSY summer staff plan and host lots of optional social events ("study breaks"). These change every year based on summer staff preferences but have included events such as game tournaments, dance parties, spa nights, karaoke, cooking classes, and more!  Even on nights without pre-planned activities, students can generally find others hanging out in the Buttery -- the student cafe in each residentail college -- ready to chat, hang out, play games, etc.
