Welcome to the CIPE Annual Photo Contest

Each year the Yale Center for International and Professional Experience invites students to submit photographs they have taken during their experiences in CIPE programs, both domestically and abroad, to create the annual CIPE calendar.

This year, we are excited to utilize Instagram to determine the cover photo of the 2016 CIPE Calendar. Follow @yalecipe on Instagram to learn more!


Rules, Eligibility, and How to Submit

Rules for Submi​ssion

  1. Students may submit only one photo.
  2. The photo must be submitted electronically as a .jpg image. See How to Submit Entry below.
  3. The photo must be horizontal. No photographs in "portrait" orientation will be considered.
  4. The photo must be high resolution.
  5. The photo must have been taken by the student while the student was participating in one of the CIPE programs listed under Eligibility Criteria.
  6. In addition to submitting the photo, the student must include all of the following:
    • First and Last Name
    • Class Year
    • Residential College
    • University email address
    • The name of the CIPE program in which the student participated or the fellowship that the student received (i.e. Yale Summer Session in Mumbai)
    • The term during which the photo was taken (i.e. Summer 2015)
    • The name of the country and city or town where the student took the photo (i.e. Mumbai, India)
    • A photo caption not to exceed 1,000 characters describing the photo and how it reflects a meaningful aspect or idea from your experience. The character limit does not include the other information submitted.
  7. Students agree to all terms and conditions of the CIPE Photo Contest.

Eligibility Criteria

Students submitting photos must:

  1. Be currently enrolled in, or on a leave of absence from, Yale College; or be a student from another college/university who participated in a Yale Summer Session program; and;
  2. Participated in/received one of the following programs/fellowships during Fall 2014, Spring 2015, Summer 2015, or Academic Year 2014-2015:
    • Yale College-administered fellowship (including Richard U. Light Fellowship)
    • Global Summer Program
    • Yale-sponsored Domestic or International Internship
    • Study Abroad
    • Yale in London
    • Yale Summer Session Abroad
    • Yale Summer Session in New Haven
       

How to Submit an Entry

  1. Students must submit their one entry by Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:59 pm.
  2. There is no contest entry fee.
  3. Any questions should be emailed to cipe.communications@yale.edu.

Judging, Winners, and Instagram

Judging Criter​ia

Winners will be selected based on the following:

  1. Photos will be judged on the basis of artistic and technical merit, but more emphasis will be placed on the way in which the photo captures the students' experiences.
  2. Captions will be judged on the basis of how they describe and reveal the nuances of the students' experiences.
  3. Photos will be evaluated "as is" for the purpose of the contest. However, Yale University reserves the right to resize the picture for its online presentation.
  4. Background information will not be judged in any way.

Prize

Winners will be notified the week of October 23, 2015. Twelve (12) students will have their photo featured in the 2016 CIPE calendar. Each winning student will receive five (5) copies of the calendar - a great holiday gift! Winning photos will also be featured on the CIPE website.

Instagram

In October, the 12 winning photos will be posted to the Yale CIPE Instagram account. For one week, users will have the opportunity to "like" their favorite of the 12 submissions. The calendar submission with the most "likes" by Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:59 pm will be used as the cover photo of the 2016 Calendar. The student whose photo wins the cover contest will receive a professionally framed 8x10 copy of their photo. 

Terms and Co​nditions

  1. Submissions will be judged by CIPE staff members.
  2. The cover photo will be determined by voting on Instagram.
  3. All decisions are final.
  4. Winners will be notified the week of October 23, 2015.
  5. Cover photo winner will be notified the week of November 2, 2015.
  6. By submitting their photos to the CIPE Photo Contest, students agree to the following:
    • Students grant Yale University, for the expressed purpose of promoting CIPE's programs and opportunities, the right and permission with respect to the submitted photo, photo information, and caption to copywright the same in Yale University's own name or any other name that Yale University may choose; to use, re-use, publish and republish the same in whole or in part individually or in conjunction with other photos in any medium and for the expressed purpose of promoting Yale University; and to use their name in connection therewith if Yale University so chooses;
    • Students release and discharge Yale University from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use of the photo and caption, including any and all claims for libel.
  7. Failure to include any of the background information items will result in disqualification.
