FSY Cohort

First-Year Scholars will have the opportunity to develop close relationships with other first-generation, low-income (FGLI) students during their FSY experience. The tight-knit community that emerges from the FSY program will help support First-Year Scholars as they enter their first year at Yale. The FSY experience, including the support systems and mentors in the program, will help position students to take advantage of the many choices and opportunities that await them as students at Yale.

The FSY community is diverse with students representing states and territories across the entire United States. Students come from urban, suburban, and rural communities where they attended public, charter, religious, military, and tribal schools. Students identify themselves by a variety of races, ethnicities, and genders, and they speak multiple languages from around the world. Students pursue majors across Yale's liberal arts curriculum and get involved in an array of nearly 500 student clubs and interest groups at Yale. Students are encouraged to explore all that Yale has to offer, diving into the areas they are most passionate and discovering new areas of interest along the way.

[note]FSY represents an annual cohort of 96 FGLI students. During the academic year, FSY participants join together with many more FGLI students, forming a large FGLI student community at Yale!
